Balancing the Equation: Stacey Anderson “Floors it” at First Competition
The first competition of the year can usually be reduced to an equation: the amount of preparation divided by the force of nervousness equals the amount of success. At the first Artistic Gymnastics Competition of the year, Level 5 National Champion Stacey Anderson solved that problem. Anderson had considerable success at her first Level 6 competition, the 2007 Canterbury Gymnastics Ribbon Day Competition at Olympia.
Anderson has been working hard, and showed off her tumbling with two twisting somersaults on floor. Gravity hardly seems to apply to this gymnast. On beam, Anderson scored a 15.2 under the new judging system, which is a very good score. Anderson’s start value was a 17 due to 1.6 in bonus. She competed four B level skills and two C level skills, beginning with a backward somersault and ending with an unusual skill for a Level 6 gymnast—a round-off back-layout.
Anderson will continue to find success because she is always pushing herself towards the next achievement. To that end, she will be moving into the senior Level 7 area so that she can continue to develop and add more skills. Congratulations on your achievements, Stacey! Keep your eyes peeled for more about this outstanding gymnast!
