Gymnastics Year Gets Underway.

CHRISTCHURCH GYMNASTS. - FLIPPING BRILLIANT.

PRESS RELEASE.   FOR IMMEDIATE USE. 16July, 2006

Christchurch School of Gymnastics gymnasts took out all four of the grades at the National Trials at North Harbour on Saturday.
4 teams, one each from level 7, 8, 9 and 10 were being selected for the International Levels Challenge to be contested in Perth in early September.

The Challenge is between Australia, NZ, Singapore and Japan and was last hosted by Canberra 2 years ago. 3 members of that 2004 team look set to make the trip.
Kathryn Lewis (16) Level 10  59.532  1st.
Samantha Russell (16) level 9  56.499  1st
Karla Singh (17) Level 8  51.598  1st

They each won their section at the trials by a comfortable margin. Russell and Lewis in particular showcased routines that would not have been out of place at the Commonwealth Games.
Joining them in the NZ team for the first time will be
Michelle Lewis (16) level 8  48.799  2nd.
Marie Van den Boerke (13) level 7  50.098 1st
Holly Moon (12) Level 7  47.631 4th.

It was especially satisfying for Holly Moon who had in March won another NZ trial for a Junior Development team to compete at the Australian Nationals in May, only to have the opportunity withdrawn as NZ did not receive an invitation. She was able to put that disappointment behind her and work hard to learn new routines for this tour.
The Lewis family will also be pleased they have 2 of their triplets in the team for the first time.

Joining the 6 Christchurch School of Gymnastics gymnasts will be Emma Wright (15) from Olympia who qualified for the level 7 team placing 2nd with 49.698.

The trials were held alongside an Auckland regional junior championships so the club took with them their talented team of their youngest gymnasts from Level 1, to compete against teams from the strong North Harbour and Counties Manukau clubs.
The gymnasts placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th, showing just how dominant that this club is with their programmes.
