2004 National Championship Results

CSG gymnasts competing at the National Gymnastics Championships in Auckland have returned with a stash of individual and team titles. The CSG dominated Canterbury team also managed to capture trophies
for excellence in Sportsmanship. A great result for CSG and just rewards for the hard work and dedication from both gymnasts and coaches. A summary of the successess of CSG's gymnasts follows:

Level 10

Sarah Skelton 35.1 2nd AA, 2nd on beam. Proficiency Pin
Samantha Russell 33.60 5th AA 1st on bars, Proficiency pin
Samantha Russell was chosen to compete against the International Elite gymnasts in Bar final.
Sam won the level 10 bars with a 9.1 score from 9.9.
Sarah also achieved 9.1 but in the all around competition (CSG had great success in 2004 on bars).
Sam was first up and ready to go a full 10 minutes prior to her being given the green flag. While she waited 3 TV cameras were within a metre of her and all focused on her. 10 minutes is a long long time.
Sam once given the go ahead, slightly tripped on her way to the beatboard and then continued right through her stunning bar routine to score a 7.40 from 8.4 start value. She received 4th place. A wonderful
achievement especially under the pressure she was in
.

Sportsmanship Trophy for all the level 9 girls - excellent work.
Senior Canterbury team - best presented team - yeah!

Level 7

Team 2nd
Alyssa Daley 34.232 3rd AA
Nikki Press was invited to demonstate her Level 7 beam routine to the audience at Nationals during the holidays. This was a great honour which Nikki performed flawlessly. I imagine it was even more nerve wracking than during the competition. Well done Nikki beam will never again be so hard
.

Level 6

Olivia Watts 35.132 proficiency pin
Georgina Willmer 35.083 proficiency pin

All of our team members presented themselves well and looked great.
The Level 9 MAG team assisted ably by Hayley Guiney and Karry Summers made the social on the Saturday such a success the host club presented them with a special award at the closing ceremony. The men also looked rather dashing in their  black tuxedos and specially printed ties. They were acknowledged also at the closing.
Well done you have lifted the bar.
