Gymnastics Year Gets Underway.

CSG Facility - December 2011

The gymnasiums can be repaired within the insured value. We are waiting to hear about the land. Where CSG is situated in QEII Park there doesn't seem to be too much damage.

However CERA and the CCC will be the judge of that.

CSG Building information - June, 2011

Structural Engineers inspected the building following the June 13th aftershocks. Remedial work was requested and this was completed by HRS Construction that day and the follwoing day. Well done everyone for being so amazingly prompt.
No water meant that we were not able to open again for general classes until Friday. Gym 1  (the old gym) however was closed again to check that the portals had not moved so much that the building was less strong. The surveyor arrived and completed the onsite work on Thursday 16th. We await his findings and structural engineers report to see if it is safe to use the old gym once again.

The staff have been working hard to rearrange the programmes to ensure that the new gym is able to be used to the maximum and the gymnasts can get quality apparatus time. Thank you to the squads who have been so gracious and understanding when their times were changed. Some squads are now working on Sunday morning, and additional week day morning trainings are going on. Thank you everyone.

CSG Gymnasium building information.

18th April 2011. The gym has been once again checked over by a senior engineer this morning. We are pleased to say that there are no further restrictions that have been placed on our usage.
Gym 1 - the older gym.
The additional site inspection gave Warren a chance to further investigate gym 1 and there is more work to be done there before we can use some of it again. The strengthening work has been started, and this should be completed soon. One of the bays is having cross bracing in the roof, and also down the side wall. Extra steel is fantastic. Until we can use that gym again though the engineer would like to have one of the southern wall pillars 'straightened'. This means that as we go into term 2 we will still be sharing one gym.

Planning is underway to ensure that the numbers will not exceed occupancy levels and also that we can still deliver our excellent classes. The mezzanine floor will be opened to spectators, but parents will need to ensure that siblings remain under control.
We will be asking parents to please drop their children into the gym, but not to stay. Space will be at a premium.

Sunday's will be busier than normal with 3 squads having training planned for the morning 9am to 1pm slot. This time will be important and will ensure good quality apparatus time as we head into the competition part of the season.

Timetable for term 2 is being finalised. We will be saying goodbye to Charlotte Dolden as she heads off overseas to begin her OE in coaching on 8th May. She will be working at Castle Hill RSL Gymnastics in Sydney and we wish her well. Charlotte was our first coaching recipient of the Mary Wright Scholarship, and we know together we have done a good job. Charlotte has been in charge of our junior HP squads as well as taking some responsibilty in the junior WAG area. Her administrative and coaching skills are excellent and we are very sad to see her leave, but know that to further her career she needs to have addditional experiences. We know she will be back one day to continue her career in New Zealand, and with CSG.

We welcome Katie Chorley to the team, Katie is a coach from Bristol and will be working in our competitive area as well as hours in the GFA programmes. We will introduce her further down the track. Katie arrives at the end of the first week of term 2 and will start on the 9th May.

Please look out for the term 2 timetable. We are working as fast as we can.
We do appreciate your patience and support.

Classes from Tuesday 8th March, 2011

Thank you for your positive emails in response to the sessions we are holding.

We had a great time last week helping our members, and members of the community, to get some kind of normality back into their lives.

The sessions started slowly on Wed, but by 11am Sat morning we estimate we had put through over 150 children.

We are desperately trying to get back into the CSG building. We have had people in to look at what repairs need to be done to get some functionality, and work should start on that soon. The church hall has been fantasic for a temporary solution, but we are in the process of looking for a bigger venue so that we can actually resume running the term's classes to the high standard we have come to expect of ourselves.

For this week we will still be running some sessions from the church hall.

The sessions will take place at       The Reformed Church of Bishopdale

                                      90 Highstead Road, Bishopdale
